C. Renegade's interview with Muzik Clazz
MuzikClazz: Tell me something about yourself.
C. Renegade: I go by the name C. Renegade, Ren for short. I was born and raised in the Lowcountry, South Carolina in Nixville/Estill. Music Producer, Rapper, all that. 19 years old
MuzikClazz: How long have you been on Muzik Clazz?
C. Renegade: Since day one, when that shit started? [April 2008] I had just released my new single ["Talkin' Bout Fuckin'"] and ya'll promoted it. So I been sticking with Muzik Clazz, 'cause another blog site, that will remain nameless, pulled some fuck shit.
MuzikClazz: How long have you been into hip hop?
C. Renegade: My whole life. If you ask my sister, she'll tell you my favorite song as a baby was "Gangsta Lean"... Then in like '96 I could rap "Crossroads" like it was easy or something. But anyway, I started writing back in '98 and producing in 2004. Im a 80's baby man. If you a 80's baby and you aint with it... Get lost, real talk, hang yourself.
MuzikClazz: What would you say got you into hip hop?
C. Renegade: Look where im from. It ain't nothing but black people in my neighborhood. My sister used to blast BET all day when I was a child. Grew up on Dre, Pac, Biggie, OutKast, UGK, Master P and Cash Money. I realized I could be a rapper too and went crazy.
MuzikClazz: So, what's your favorite thing about hip hop nowadays?
C. Renegade: Haters. I love haters. Don't get it confused, I mean I love that so many niggaz out there worried bout what I do. Motivation. Talk about me cause you dont like what I DO! But naw... On the real I love the fact that some people are finally respecting the south. I mean some of the shit that come from here is garbage, but hell you can name at least one from the east coast that wack, one from the west coast, mid west... etc. You need me to name them for you... [Laughs]
MuzikClazz: What would you change about hip hop?
C. Renegade: It so many rappers now. There need to be a application. [Laughs] A damn rapper apllication, 'cause plenty of these guys aint shit. I mean half can't rap, have no MUSICAL talent, and the other half are lying. I like what T.I. said, "Kick it like me, no exxageration neccesary..." Niggaz be lying... I hate that shit for real... Oh yeah, and in 2008 somebody musta picked up Websters and found out what SWAG is. Everybody got SWAG now.
MuzikClazz: How do you feel about these new "ringtone artists", such as Soulja Boy, Plies, T-Pain.
C. Renegade: Soulja Boy did his thing. He went Platinum when big shot niggaz having a hard time going plat. No hating. I respect that man for getting on his grind and exposing the internet for what it's worth. Plies, I got all 3 of Plies CD's. Play them shit from start to finish, I don't care what them haters say. Also T-Pain is a genious. Can you name all the songs T-Pain was on this year... I know me neither. People hate the fact that Soulja Boy dances... Motherfucker Big Daddy Kane danced. They say Plies aint lyrical, they say T-Pain can't sing. I say niggaz is just some haters. Simple as that.
MuzikClazz: How about some of the "Smart rappers" that have started to emerge; Ex: Lupe Fiasco
C. Renegade: Thats what they do. Lupe is a beast lyrically. That nigga Cory Gunnz, amazing. I respect that, even though I that type of rapper. I mean it takes that. Somebody got to put out that kind of music. Somebody got to put out the club music, that party shit. I mean, no disrespect, but I dont expect to hear them in the club. But when I wanna hear something that make me think, thats who I put on my iPod.
MuzikClazz: So what have YOU been up to lately?
C. Renegade: Working on 3 projects at one time. It's killing me but I love it. Got my album "Da Muzikal" that Im taking forever on, a 2 disc mixtape called "Laugh Out Loud", and a short mixtape called "Punnany 101". Alot of production and writing behind the scenes.
MuzikClazz: I heard you got a song called "Pussy"... what's that all about?
C. Renegade: It's about pussy man. [Laugh] I love it so I did a song about it. Wezzy love weed so he did a song called "Kush"... I love pussy so I did a song called "Pussy"... Its that simple. Some niggaz scared to rap about sex... I do it alot. No pun intended. [Laughs]
MuzikClazz: What do you see yourself doing in 5-10 years?
C. Renegade: Chilling. Im gonna still rap, but dont get me wrong I got money. Im getting money regardless of how this rap shit do. So in 5 years expect me to be driving a BMW 760... [Laugh] Yeah haters... I been planning on getting that within the next 2 years. And NO I DON'T SELL DOPE. 10 years from now the studio gonna be 5 times bigger than it is now, and im trying to quadruple my current hater count. [Laughs]
MuzikClazz: Who have some of your biggest influences been?
C. Renegade: T.I. I look up to TIP. I got every album. I studied T.I. like east coast rappers study Big and Jay. My style doesn't emulate his entirely, but there are some aspects of his influence in my music.
MuzikClazz: What is your favorite movie, video game, album, track, artist, food, sport, & female aside from wifey. (I'll send it to you're wife's email!)
C. Renegade: I aint married brah... [Laughs] No time soon, but besides that my favorite movie got to be... umm... "Don't Be A Menace To South Central Whil Drinking Your Juice In The Hood"... That shit funny as hell. Video game, Grand Theft Auto IV... I got addicted to that shit and finished it in a week. I was mad at myself for that shit. Favorite album right now "Paper Trail"... my favorite of all time... shit... H-Town first album, "Fever 4 Da Flavor" I get so much pussy because of that CD [Laughs] My favorite artist is C. Renegade... what you expect. Food... umm... pussy... [Laughs] naw chicken, preferably fried. Sport football and female... umm... thats a secret right now, but she all I think about.
MuzikClazz: How do you feel about online text rapping?
C. Renegade: What the fuck is that? Seriously.
